ALA MEMBERSHIP
Become a Member of the ALA
and the Silicon Valley Chapter!
The Association of Legal Administrators is an international
association that offers you opportunities for professional growth
through a variety of educational resources. It has over 10,000 members
throughout the United States and 19 other countries, operating through
over 100 chapters. The Silicon Valley Chapter alone
includes members from over 100 private law firms or corporate and
governmental legal departments in the South Bay Area from San Mateo
to Monterey.
Managing the affairs of a law department has evolved into a complex
profession and it gets more complex every day. We all deal with
the difficulties of keeping up with the ever-changing practice of
law, whether it is in private law firms, corporate legal departments
or the public sector. The Association of Legal Administrators provides
resources to help you in guiding your law practice to operate more
smoothly and cost effectively.
What are the benefits of membership? Our local chapter
provides an opportunity to network with and share resources with
other legal administrators and provides continuing education opportunities.
Past seminars sponsored by the chapter include:
- Annual Labor Law Update
- Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
- Computer Technology
- Equipment Leasing
- Recruiting and Retention of Staff
- The Challenges of Managing Lawyers
ALA members receive several excellent, professional publications
and resource materials at no charge or reduced rates. Member discounts
are available for ALA’s annual and regional educational conferences.
More information about the ALA and the conferences can be found
on the website at http://www.alanet.org.
The web site also features such areas as online discussion groups
where members post questions and receive feedback from other members
all over the world, an online research library to assist with your
questions or concerns on a particular topic, a career services area,
and much more.
The Association of Legal Administrators is open
to any legal administrator who exercises full-time management responsibilities
or performs essentially all of the management or administrative
duties for an organization without a full-time administrator. There
may be more than one member from the same organization, such as
managers for human resources, MIS, finance or facilities. Our members
work in private law firms, corporate legal departments, governmental
legal agencies, court systems and charitable legal organizations.
Membership in ALA International is a prerequisite
to membership in the Silicon Valley Chapter of the Association of
Legal Administrators. Members of the Silicon Valley Chapter of Legal
Administrators must continue to meet the requirements as set forth
in the ALA’s International Bylaws, and must agree to abide
by the ALA Code of Professional Ethics. ALA International membership
information may be found at www.alanet.org/join.
